In just two days, we ‘ve got:
Eagles at New England Patriots, 4:25 p.m., CBS
Line: Eagles -4 | Total: 45
Jalen Hurts has completed one of the most remarkable ascents in modern quarterback history.
Eagles brass was split on the ex-Alabama and Oklahoma passer, with some in the organization wanting the team to take safety Jeremy Chinn in the 2020 second round.
The Eagles defied traditional roster-building measures by selecting Hurts in Round 2, doing so less than a year after giving Carson Wentz a $35 million-per-year extension.
They took on a then-record dead-money hit ($33.8 million) by trading Wentz in 2021, but even after Hurts spent a full season as a starter, Philly was not fully committed to him.
Until last season, when Hurts broke through and then some, leading Philly within 4 points of a Lombardi Trophy.
Pats coach Bill Belichick still has quite a few mind games and strategies to combat the all-around play of a signal-caller like Hurts, but he does not have the personnel to make it happen.
And on the offensive side, Bill O’Brien seems like a good choice as a coordinator but the pickups of running back Ezekiel Elliott and JuJu Smith-Schuster are a few years past their sell-by date.
Pick: Eagles -4
